The Gatsy has arrived in Knysna and can be found at Trio 0443824079 which is sandwiched between Scooters and Kentucky Fried Chicken. A junk food monster which is perfect for the hungry family doing an eat out. Trio also do good curry and its all halaal.

I remember years ago when I lived in Knysna during the late nineties, just about at the beginning of what I now call the ‘Knysna cuisine revolution’ it was rather disappointing if you needed something in the middle of the night. Those two o’clock in the morning cravings for any of a number of things that the average urbanite gets used to.

Move to Knysna and hey presto, you’re in need of a hot pie and a coffee at two am. (What are you doing up at that hour? It’s better not to ask.)

It is possible to get a nescafe for six rand at the total. The pies aren’t bad either. I haven’t tried for wi fi but I would imagine that the hotspot next to the total closest to the waterfront is available at night. They also do quite a cool cheese griller twister number that is having a negative effect on my cardiac health.

Whatever happened to deliveries? Why can’t I phone a pizza in Knysna? After all I once got one delivered to my tent even though I was camped thirteen kilometres outside Ladismith. If they can manage that right up there in the natal drakensberg then what’s wrong here? Everybody had too much oysters? That must be it, everyone eats too much of the reputed aphrodisiac and has no time to bring me a pizza!

Am I wrong here? I know St. Elmo’s has a new owner and I have only been here in Knysna a few weeks ( which have flown by). Maybe they do deliver. I guess I’ll check it out but if someone is reading this and knows better than I do please fill me in. So they can fill me up!

Jamie blue is another place that has just changed hands, looking for exciting stuff to happen there.

Of course, earlier than two am there’s upstairs on main. But that’s different. Know what Id like to see? Something better than a cheap nescafe at two o’clock in the morning.
